Welcome to the Website of SpinTech VIII

SpinTech VIII will highlight fundamental physical phenomena related to spin-dependent effects in condensed matter and advances in the development of new spintronic materials, structures, and devices, including quantum information science and concepts. The school will take place during the first half of the week to orient newcomers and students to this emerging field, followed by a conference aiming at stimulating the progress in new materials, measurement and theory of spintronic systems. SpinTech VIII will take place in Basel, Aug. 10–13, 2015.

Located in the Northwest of Switzerland on the river Rhein, Basel is among the most important cultural and economic centers of Switzerland, being home to two of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. The city comprises many famous museums and art exhibitions and is known for the best Swiss soccer team. The University of Basel, founded in 1460, is Switzerland's oldest and most prestigious university. It has been home to famous alumni such as Paracelsus, Nietzsche, Euler, and the Bernoulli family who worked at the Department of Physics, which hosts now the largest research center in quantum condensed matter physics and nanoscience in Switzerland.
